Description From Owner:
- The Honourable F.W. (Fred) Aylmer was a civil engineer with an aristocratic English background.
- When he came to lay out a townsite at the locality hitherto known as Salmon Beds, he remembered that his surname derived from two Anglo-Saxon words, athel, meaning 'noble,' and mere, meaning 'lake.'
- He named the settlement Athalmer in honour of his ancestors and himself.
