- Hobson Lake - After John B. Hobson, at the end of the nineteenth century considered one of the world's best hydraulic mining engineers.
- He was responsible for the famous Bullion Pit at Hydraulic. He always travelled in style, and when he went up to the Cariboo in the summer, he hired the Dufferin fancy four-horse stagecoach.
- Horsefly - The settlement of Horsefly was originally called Harper's Camp after Thaddeus Harper, pioneer rancher and miner. The present name comes from the horseflies that can be a great nuisance here in the summer.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
