Description From Owner:
- Kitimat - A Coast Tsimshian word meaning 'people of the falling snow.' Many years ago some Tsimshian people, arriving in great canoes to take part in some winter ceremonies, were greeted by their hosts during a heavy fall of snow.
- The name that the Kitimat people used for their village was 'Dsemosa,' meaning 'the place of logs.' During high tides masses of logs would wash up on the beach and remain there.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
