- Tweedsmuir Park - This enormous wilderness reserve of more than 3,700 square miles was established in 1936 and named for Lord Tweedsmuir, then Governor-General of Canada.
- The first Baron Tweedsmuir (1875-1940) is better known as John Buchan, the author of such notable adventure stories as The Thirty-Nine Steps and Greenmantle.
- He was Britain's director of information in World War I, and in 1927 he became the MP for the Scottish universities.
