- Stamp River - After Captain Edward Stamp, an Englishman who first visited Vancouver Island in 1857 and began placing orders for timber for the British market.
- He was responsible for building the sawmill on Alberni Inlet for a Scottish company in 1860 and managed the mill for its first couple of years. He remained in the lumber business and in 1865 built Stamp's mill, the first on the south shore of Burrard Inl
