Reifel Island - Originally Smoky Tom Island, it was purchased in 1929 by George C. Reifel, who took a great interest in the migrating waterfowl.
In 1972 the Canadian Wildlife Service purchased much of the island. George H. Reifel, as a memorial to his father, donated to the CWS the remaining 98.5 acres, which had been leased to the BC Waterfowl Society.
The whole is now the George C. Reifel Waterfowl Refuge.
