Description From Owner:
- Reifel Island - Originally Smoky Tom Island, it was purchased in 1929 by George C. Reifel, who took a great interest in the migrating waterfowl.
- In 1972 the Canadian Wildlife Service purchased much of the island. George H. Reifel, as a memorial to his father, donated to the CWS the remaining 98.5 acres, which had been leased to the BC Waterfowl Society.
- The whole is now the George C. Reifel Waterfowl Refuge.
