British Columbia Tourism Region : Vancouver, Coast, & Mountains
Description From Owner:
- Indian Arm Park - Explored by the Spanish in June 1792, who met a few Indians here. From them they learned that the Indians applied the name Sasamat either to Indian Arm or to the whole of Burrard Inlet — just which is not clear.
- Sasamat Lake, near the mouth of Indian Arm, preserves this name. Indian River, at the head of Indian Arm, was officially Meslisloet River until 1921.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
