Bonaparte River, flows S. past Cache Cr. Since this is mentioned by name as early as 1826, flows S. past Cache cr. (C-9). Since this is mentioned by name as early as 1826
it would seem that the river was named directly after the great Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) rather than the Kanaka labourer who is known to have been nicknamed Napoleon.
