Description From Owner:
  • In 1897 the Lorne mineral claim was staked, and it became the Lorne mine. In 1931 the Bralco Development and Investment Company acquired the mine, and a new company, Bralorne Mines Limited, was formed to operate the mine.
  • The new name, Bralorne, was a compound of Bra, for Bralco, and Lorne, the name of the mine. Bralco consists of the first two letters of British, Alberta, and Columbia.
  • Piebiter Creek - After 'Piebiter' Smith, an early prospector with protruding teeth and a special fondness for pies. He went insane while working his claim here.
  • Mount Sloan - After David Sloan, wealthy mining engineer and manager of the Pioneer Mine. He died of injuries suffered in a plane crash at Alta Lake in 1935.
  • With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
