Description From Owner:

After Francis William Caulfeild, a most attractive English gentleman in the old tradition.
In 1899, won by the beauty of the wild flowers, woods, and beaches of the area, he bought the land between Cypress Creek and Point Atkinson. Himself a lover of beautiful English villages, he sought to create one here.
Rejecting the uncompromising grid universally imposed on North American settlements, he laid out winding streets that followed the natural contours of the wooded slopes.
He made a public park out of the strip of land on the waterfront. Caulfeild died in 1934, aged ninety.
