British Columbia Tourism Region : Cariboo Chilcotin Coast
Description From Owner:
- Chantslar Lake from a Chilcotin Indian word meaning 'steelhead lake.'
- Mount Charlieboy named after an old chief of the Redstone Indians.
- Chezacut - This settlement preserves the earlier name of Chilcotin Lake. Chezacut is derived from a Chilcotin Indian word meaning 'birds without feathers' geese go to moult here (during which time they cannot fly).
- Mount Palmer - After Lieutenant Henry Spencer Palmer of the Royal Engineers, who passed this way in 1862 with a couple of sappers while surveying the route between Bella Coola and Fort Alexandria.
- Puntzi Lake - According to a missionary priest, Puntzi means 'blackberries' in the Chilcotin language, but Lieutenant H.S. Palmer, RE, who visited the lake in 1862, reported that the name meant 'small lake.'
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
