- Donald - After Donald A. Smith, who became Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal, director of the CPR during and after construction. (For further biographical detail, see Strathcona Park.)
- Donald was originally known as First Crossing since it was here that the CPR first crossed the Columbia River. Second Crossing (later Revelstoke) was on the west side of the Big Bend of the Columbia.
- Mount Freshfield - Named in 1899 after Sir Douglas Freshfield, president of the Alpine Club of Great Britain.
