- The Black Tusk is a volcanic mountain landmark offers hiking, rock climbing & other outdoor recreation.
- Descriptive of this peak's lava top. The Squamish Indian name for it signified 'landing place of the thunderbird.'
- The Squamish people believed that the magic thunderbird lived on top of Black Tusk, flapping its wings to cause thunder and shooting lightning bolts from its eyes at anyone who came too close.
