Description From Owner:
- Genoa Bay - Since an Italian, Giovanni Baptiste Ordano, came here in 1858, it seems likely that Genoa Bay commemorates his birthplace. Later that year Ordano opened the first store in the district at Tzuhalem.

- Known locally as Mahoney's Bay since 1860 as John Mahoney farmed at the head of the bay. British Admiralty chart # 2840 dated 1872 labelled the bay Snug Creek.
- The second owner of the saw mill on Sug Creek Mahoney's Bay was Orin Nelson Hughitt and in 1890 he opened a post office naming it Genoa BC after his birth place of Genoa New York USA.
- Soon after naming the post office. Genoa was the name of the locality and the saw mill and bay began being referred to as Genoa Bay.His son Ernest 'Tommy' Frederick Hughitt was born 27 Dec 1892 at Genoa BC.
