860 Scott Ave |
British Columbia Tourism Region : Thompson Okanagan
Description From Owner:
- Hedley - Named about 1899 after Robert R. Hedley, manager of the Hall mines smelter in Nelson. Somewhat earlier Hedley grubstaked Peter Scott, who had staked some of the first mineral claims in the area.
- Stemwinder Park - Takes its name from nearby Stemwinder Mountain, which in turn is named after the Stemwinder claim at Fairview Camp.
- The stemwinder watch was regarded as a notable improvement on the old watches that had to be wound with a key, and 'stemwinder' came to be a synonym for 'first rate.'
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
