Description From Owner:
  • Ealue Lake - From a Tahltan Indian word meaning 'sky fish.'
  • Eddontenajon Lake - From a Tahltan Indian phrase meaning 'a little boy drowned.' According to legend a small boy was standing by the shore, trying to imitate the cry of a nearby loon.
  • His mother rebuked the boy, warning him that if he copied the bird he would go into the water. The child persisted, fell into the lake, and drowned.
  • Ehahcezetle Mountain - From a Tahltan Indian word meaning 'sky mountain,' or 'mountain reaches the sky.'
  • Ford Pass - The policeman at Telegraph Creek told old man Ford that, because of his age, he was not to go trapping any more. Ford was not going to be stopped by any policeman he went out on his line and was never seen again.
  • Kadiddi Lake - A corruption of the Sekani Indian term for 'narrow water.'
  • Kinaskan Lake - From a Tahltan Indian word meaning 'raft crossing' or 'the lake that you have to raft.'
  • Klahowya Lake - Klahowya is the word of greeting in the Chinook jargon. When one shouts 'Klahowya' across this lake, the opposite bluffs return the greeting.
  • With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
