Description From Owner:
  • After the family of Frederick Brent, a former us Army cavalryman and Indian scout, who first came to the Okanagan in 1865. Locals know Brent Mountain as 'Snow Mountain.'
  • Kaleden - When the townsite was laid out in 1909, one of the lots was offered as a prize for whoever suggested the best name for the new settlement.
  • The winner was the Reverend Walter Russell, who suggested 'Kaleden,' a compound derived from the Greek kalos, meaning 'beautiful,' and 'Eden,' the biblical garden of paradise.
  • Aeneas Lake - After 'Little Aeneas,' a wizened little Indian who lived at the south end of the lake. He died c. 1946, aged over 100.
  • With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
