Description From Owner:
Siska Creek
- Kanaka Bar - The Kanakas were Hawaiian Islanders. Even before 1834, when the H BC established a post at Honolulu, its trading ships brought a number of Kanakas to British Columbia.
- After leaving the HBC'S employment, some of them washed for gold at Kanaka Bar.
- The Thompson Indian name for Kanaka Bar means 'crossing-place,' referring to the Fraser River.
- Siska Creek - This word and its variant, Cisco, are generally thought to be derived from the Thompson Indian word meaning 'uncle.' However, another translation has been proposed: 'lots of splits [small cracks] in the rocks.'
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
