British Columbia Tourism Region : Vancouver, Coast, & Mountains
Description From Owner:
- Gold miners of the 1858 rush who hoped to elude naval patrols checking on mining licences are said to have used this minor entrance into the Fraser. Perhaps they tried to sneak by in canoes.
- Ladner - After the first white settlers, William H. Ladner and Thomas E. Ladner, who took up land here in 1868. Born in Cornwall, England, the Ladner brothers came to British Columbia in 1858.
- They prospected and mined in the Cariboo and engaged in store keeping and running pack trains before marrying in 1865 two sisters, Mary and Edney Booth, and turning to agriculture.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
