Description From Owner:
- Ninstints - This was the name of an extremely important Haida chief of the now-abandoned village on Anthony Island. Ninstints can be translated as 'one who is two.' Chief Ninstints made a fortune outfitting the last sea otter hunts in this area.
- Anthony Island - After Anthony Denny, Archdeacon of Ardfert, Ireland, father of a midshipman on HMS Virago, which was here in 1853. The Indian name 'Skang'wai' means 'Red Cod Island.'
- The Indians abandoned the island after the 1862 smallpox epidemic.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
