Description From Owner:
Marron River McLean CreekShuttleworth Creek
- Marron River - Marron is French for a tamed animal that has reverted to the wild state. The Marron River probably got its name from the wild horses that were once numerous here.
- McLean Creek - After Roderick McLean, who in 1860 built the VIBC post at Keremeos and later farmed there.
- Shuttleworth Creek - After Harry Shuttleworth, who pre-empted land near Keremeos in 1877. He was a stockman, big-game guide, and hunter.
- Skaha Lake - Originally Lac du Chien, then Dog Lake, and finally in 1930 officially named Skaha Lake to recognize local usage.
- Skaha is the Shuswap Indian, not the Okanagan Indian, word for 'dog.' Angus McDonald, a pioneer HBC man, noted that the company's men killed and ate fat dogs here when they could not get venison or fish. Dogtown was an early name of Okanagan Falls.
