Description From Owner:
- Port Mellon - After Captain Henry Augustus Mellon. After some years with the Royal Navy, during which he saw service in the Indian Mutiny, Captain Mellon served with the Allan Line and Dominion Steamship Company.
- He came to Vancouver in 1886, where he served as a marine surveyor, marine insurance agent, examiner of mates and masters, and police magistrate.
- When the British Columbia Wood, Pulp and Paper Company was founded in 1908, Mellon, the first vice-president, chose the millsite on West Howe Sound that now bears his name.
- Before the pulp mill was built, Port Mellon (then known as Seaside) was a popular destination for boat excursions from Vancouver.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
