Description From Owner:
- Sapperton - A number of the 'sappers' (Royal Engineers) despatched to British Columbia in 1858 and 1859 formed a building society, purchased lots, built themselves houses,
- and so founded the village that they called Sapperton. Sapperton, however, was first used by Colonel Moody as the name for the campsite that the Royal Engineers had cleared here, to the east of the original townsite of New Westminster.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
