Description From Owner:
  • Marshall Creek - After John Marshall, who established a flour mill near Soda Creek in 1868. Later he had a mill at Lillooet. He was also a prospector.
  • Mission Ridge - Named after the mission on Seton Lake. The trail linking the mission with the Bridge River area went through MISSION PASS.
  • Nosebag Creek - In his book Beyond the Rockies (p. 152), Lukin Johnston mentions meeting 'a delightful old gentleman named Jones 'Jonesey' for short, or sometimes 'Nosebag Jonesey'.
  • From him Nosebag Creek takes its name.' Presumably Nosebag Jones was fond of his food. (A nosebag, partly filled with oats, would be slipped over the head of a horse to let it eat during a halt.)
  • Seton Lake - Anderson said that he named this lake after a 'near relative and playmate of my early days, Colonel Alexander Seton of the 74th,
  • whose heroic fate I also commemorate by naming the Birkenhead Strait after the ship in which he so nobly perished.' (See Birkenhead River.)
  • Anderson Lake ~ River - After Alexander Caulfield Anderson, born in Calcutta in 1814 and educated in England. He entered the service of the HBC and arrived at Fort Vancouver on the Columbia River in 1832.
  • During the 1840s he made important explorations of the country between Fort Kamloops and Fort Langley. He left the service of the HBC in 1854.
  • In 1858 Governor Douglas commissioned him to open up a route from the lower Fraser River, via Harrison Lake and Lillooet, to the upper Fraser.
  • Douglas was so pleased with this survey that he expressed a wish that Anderson would bestow his own name upon this lake, which was an important part of the route.
  • ANDERSON RIVER, which flows westward into the Fraser near Boston Bar, is also named after A.C. Anderson.
