Notch Hill - So named by G.M. Dawson because of the gap in the hills here through which the CPR mainline runs.
Sorrento - Mistakenly thinking that the CPR was to be rerouted along the shore of Shuswap Lake, an eastern capitalist, J.R. Kinghorn, laid out a townsite here and named it after Sorrento, where he had spent his honeymoon.
Sorrento, Italy, looks out toward the Isle of Capri, and Sorrento, British Columbia, looks out toward Copper Island, which reminded Kinghorn of Capri. The original name of Sorrento was Trapper's Landing.
