- Steveston - After William H. Steves. The Daily Colonist of 31 July 1889 reported that 'W.H. Steves of Lulu Island has laid out a portion of his ranch in town lots ...
- It is fully expected that the little village now clus tered at Steves will soon grow into a thriving business centre.' Within a month or so, Steves had been changed to Steveston.
- The father of W.H. Steves, old Manoah Steves, a New Brunswicker, had settled in 1877 on Lulu Island, where he was joined the following year by his wife and six children. W.H. Steves was his eldest son.
