Description From Owner:

Strathnaver - In the summer of 1911, the fourth Duke of Sutherland, who owned more acres than any other British nobleman, detrained at Ashcroft and, with three automobiles for his entourage and a fourth for their liquor, headed north to add equity.
Here he purchased 4,000 acres of his own choosing and named his new estate Strathnaver ('valley of the Naver'). Earlier 'Lord Strathnaver' had been a courtesy title used by the heirs apparent of the Earls (later Dukes) of Sutherland.
The next year the first party of Scottish settlers was sent out to Strathnaver, but in 1913 the Duke died and the whole colonization project was abandoned.
