Description From Owner:
- Strathnaver - In the summer of 1911, the fourth Duke of Sutherland, who owned more acres than any other British nobleman, detrained at Ashcroft and, with three automobiles for his entourage and a fourth for their liquor, headed north to add equity.
- Here he purchased 4,000 acres of his own choosing and named his new estate Strathnaver ('valley of the Naver'). Earlier 'Lord Strathnaver' had been a courtesy title used by the heirs apparent of the Earls (later Dukes) of Sutherland.
- The next year the first party of Scottish settlers was sent out to Strathnaver, but in 1913 the Duke died and the whole colonization project was abandoned.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
