Stump Lake - Stump Lake, or Lac des Chicots, ... derives its name from the fact that stumps and prostrate trunks of trees are found submerged along its edges, and even far out from the shore,
showing that it cannot long have occupied this part of the valley. The Indians, indeed, say that some among them still living can remember the time when no lake existed there.
