Description From Owner:
TadanacTopping Creek
- Hanna Creek - After Frank Hanna, who in 1890, in association with 'Colonel' Eugene Sayre Topping, pre-empted over 300 acres at the mouth of Trail Creek, the future townsite of Trail.
- Later he quarrelled with his wife and with Topping, moved down to Texas, and died. Topping and Hanna's widow were married in 1906.
- Tadanac - 'T' for Trail, plus 'Canada' spelled backward.
- Topping Creek - After 'Colonel' Eugene S. Topping.
- In July 1890, when Deputy Mining Recorder in Nelson, he accepted the proposition of two prospectors that he personally pay the fees for recording their claims in return for being shown an adjacent strip that he could stake for himself.
- Thus, Topping acquired the fabulously rich Le Roi claim. (See also Hanna Creek and Trail.)
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
