Description From Owner:
  • Ingram Creek - After Henry Ingram, who became the first settler in the area around 1865.
  • According to tradition, he brought with him six of the camels that had proved unsatisfactory on the Cariboo Road. Ingram established a good ranch, started a popular race meet in 1873, and died in 1879.
  • Westwold - As early as 1826, this was named Grande Prairie. In 1900 the post office here was named Adelphi, but the new name never really supplanted Grande Prairie.
  • In 1926, when Adelphi was finally dropped, the name of Grande Prairie was no longer available, there now being a Grande Prairie post office in Alberta.
  • Westwold was then suggested by L.R. Pearse, an Englishman long resident in the area. 'Wold' is an old English word for a high open plain. The wold here was west of the railway station.
