- Whytecliff - The admiralty survey of the area, taking note of the white rock of the promontory here, named it White Cliff Point.
- In 1909 Sir Charles Tupper and Colonel Albert Whyte of the West Shore and Northern Land Co. Ltd. opened their White Cliff City townsite.
- In 1914 Colonel Whyte used his influence with the PGE to have the company name its station here not White Cliff but Whytecliff.
