Description From Owner:
- Kitimat - A Coast Tsimshian word meaning 'people of the falling snow.' Many years ago some Tsimshian people, arriving in great canoes to take part in some winter ceremonies, were greeted by their hosts during a heavy fall of snow.
- The name that the Kitimat people used for their village was 'Dsemosa,' meaning 'the place of logs.' During high tides masses of logs would wash up on the beach and remain there.
- Minette Bay - When Louis Coste, chief engineer, Department of Public Works, Ottawa, was in the area in 1898, he named this bay after his wife. (See Coste Island.)
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
