Description From Owner:
- Salmon Arm - Takes its name from Shuswap Lake's southwest arm, which in turn was named back in the days when the salmon swarmed up its creeks and river in such numbers that the settlers pitchforked them out of the water and
- used them for fertilizer on their fields.
- Shuswap Lake - Named after the Shuswap Indians, an Interior Salish band who ranged from west of the Fraser River east to the Columbia River, and from north of McBride to south of Kamloops. Shuswap may be derived from sixwt, meaning 'downriver.'
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
