Description From Owner:
- Boundary Creek so named because it enters the Kettle River at the international boundary.
- Midway - When the townsite here was laid out in 1893, it was given the name of Boundary City.
- This name proved too similar to that of the nearby Boundary Creek post office, so Captain R.C. Adams of Montreal, one of the owners of the townsite, changed the name the next year to Midway.
- He is said to have taken the name from the Midway Pleasance at the Chicago's World Fair of 1893. However, there are a number of reasons that made Midway a particularly suitable name for this new settlement:
- (1) Midway was located approximately midway between Penticton and Marcus, Washington, then its nearest railway point;
- (2) Midway stands near midpoint on the old Dewdney Trail, from its beginning at Hope to its terminus at Wild Horse Creek, near Fort Steele; and
- (3) Midway stands approximately midway between the Rockies and the Pacific.
