- After the Hon. Martin Burrell, a fruitgrower who became, successively, mayor of Grand Forks, an MP, federal Minister of Agriculture, and Librarian of the Parliamentary Library in Ottawa.
- Granby River - After the Granby Company, which established a smelter on this river.
- The founder of this company had come from Granby, Quebec. Earlier this river was known simply as the North Fork of the Kettle River. Also GRANBY BAY on Observatory Inlet, site of the ghost town of Anyox.
- Grand Forks - Originally known as Grande Prairie. It takes its present name from the junction here of the Kettle River and the Granby River.
