Description From Owner:
- Century Sam Lake - Commemorating Comox district's Sid Williams, who, as 'Century Sam,' was the province's mascot during its 1958 centennial.
- He not only dressed up as an old-time gold prospector, but actually had a small gold claim on Forbidden Plateau.
- Cruikshank River - after George Cruickshank, secretary of the committee that launched the Vancouver Island Exploration Expedition of 1864.
- Cumberland - the original settlement was named Union after the Union Coal Company. In 1898 Union as a post office address was replaced by Cumberland. Many of the miners had come from Cumberland in England.
- Forbidden Plateau - So named because the Indians believed it to be inhabited by evil spirits.
- With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
