I lived in Haley Station 1940-1952. Our back yard was the CPR Railroad. Our front yard was the Trans Canada Hwy. #17. We operated a Service Station with the old Gravity Serve Pumps. I started pumping gas, checking oil, cleaning auto windows, patching car tubes from the age of 5 years old. Steps at a time. We also sold blocks of ice. I remember shovelling sawdust between the large blocks as my Dad would unload them off the ice truck. We worked hard and that was the norm. I'm now 85.
