Description From Owner:
  • Como Lake - Various origins have been suggested for this name: Como, a Sandwich Islander or Hawaiian who belonged to the party that founded Fort Langley in 1827; Lake Como in northern Italy or even a compound of 'Co' for Coquitlam and 'mo' for Port Moody
  • Douglas Island - at confluence of Pitt R. and Fraser R. (B-8). Originally Manson Island after Donald Manson, a member of the expedition that founded Fort Langley in 1827.
  • After Governor Douglas purchased the island, he gave it to his daughter Cecilia, and it became known as Douglas Island.
  • Mary Hill - Named after Colonel Moody's wife, Mary. The Royal Engineers thought it would be a good idea to build a citadel here to defend New Westminster against any American invasion.
  • With permission from G.P.V and Helen B. Akrigg 1997 British Columbia Place Names. UBC Press.
